About Us

Dublin Offshore was founded in 2018 on the belief that sustainable development of the blue economy can change people’s lives for the better.

The founders met as the technical authorities in a leading Marine Renewable Energy technology developer. Restless, we wanted to bring our skills to bear on the wider maritime industry. Our aim is to use our experience of pioneering new solutions and expanding what’s technically possible, to deliver the potential of our ocean wealth and the offshore renewable sector.

Dublin Offshore provide bespoke and innovative engineering solutions to project and product developers using our comprehensive understanding of technology developed for the marine environment. We realise our objectives by combining innovation with pragmatic thinking to redefine the possible, turning an ambitious concept into physical reality.

Our Experience

The team has been involved with many exciting and challenging industry first projects over the past decade. Hover over the year for highlight projects.

  • Eight winners of Scottish Government funded floating wind competition announced
The Floating Wind Technology Acceleration Competition run by the Carbon Trust\'s Floating Wind Joint Industry Project has announced eight technologies to receive Scottish Government funding and developer support.

The competition was designed to address four key industry challenge areas, that need to be overcome to commercialise floating wind. The four areas were identified in Phase 1 of the Floating Wind JIP: monitoring and inspection, mooring systems, heavy lift maintenance and tow to port maintenance. The eight technologies will receive a share of £1 million from the Scottish Government, in addition to support from the 14 leading offshore wind developers represented in the Floating Wind JIP.

The Dublin Offshore project is a load reduction device that sits partway up the mooring line and pivots in the water to minimise mooring loads during wave events. The project will involve tank testing in Lir Ocean test Centre, and quarter scale testing at an ocean test site.
  • Irish engineer could solve Norway’s problems
An engineer from Dublin may have a solution to some of the challenges facing Norwegian salmon farmers.
John Fitzgerald, founder of the company Impact-9, is developing a new fish cage that will help producers to move their salmon offshore...

  • Self-propelling Irish tug could clean up our oceans
Irish inventors hope to clean up the world’s oceans with a zero-fuel, zero-emission tug boat that is propelled only by the waves. The Jospa tug, billed as a sustainable vessel, has been tested at University College Cork’s (UCC) maritime research centre in Ringaskiddy.

“We use the orbital velocity of the wave to power the tugs,” said Patrick Duffy, Jospa’s co-founder. “Waves move in an analogous way to a line of cars that stop at traffic lights. A car races up, hits the back car, and the impetus is passed from one to the other. They pass on their energy.”

  • Aquaculture Feasibility Study
Dublin Offshore have been selected to undertake a feasibility study for Impact9 who are developing innovative aquaculture systems for exposed offshore sites. Key benefits of the technology are:

    • Affordable and safe access to high energy offshore sites.
    • Stable positioning and submergibility for protection against sea lice & disease
    • Diver-less installation

Dublin Offshore will provide concept engineering along with numerical & physical Modelling. (Physical modelling to take place at Lir Ocean Test Centre in Cork)
