Mooring Load Reduction
Dublin Offshore are developing a mooring component for use on Floating Offshore Wind turbines to reduce operational loads.
The Load Reduction Device (LRD) is a subsea component of an offshore mooring system targeted at the floating wind market. It is fully scalable and tuneable to deliver the customer’s specific mooring response requirement. The LRD is manufactured using basic low-cost materials such as steel and concrete which have a demonstrated track record in the marine environment. The Load Reduction Device LRD sits part way up the mooring line and rotates in response to the movement of the floating platform and increased mooring line loads. Overall it reduces mooring line tension, which can deliver costs savings, largely through capital cost reductions on the platform and mooring line systems.
